Every movement has a story, this is ours.

In February of 2013, ONE Community launched the UNITY Pledge at a press conference held with Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton at City Hall.

ONE year later, in February of 2014, SB 1062 legislation began making negative headlines.

ONE Community was in a unique position to reach out to the businesses, organizations and individuals who had signed the UNITY Pledge and encouraged them to share what they know – discrimination is bad for business and bad for the State of Arizona.

We partnered with ONE Community business member, FASTSIGNS on Central to create the OPEN for Business to Everyone signs. During the peak of SB 1062, we distributed more than 3500 signs in less than 72 hours and the sign was shared more than 100,000 times on the internet. Individuals and businesses throughout the state, posted the sign in their storefronts, offices and homes. The Human Rights Campaign collected more than 65,000 signatures urging the governor to veto SB 1062.

Together we helped mobilize more than 200 top businesses, professional sports organizations and faith leaders to encourage Governor Brewer to veto SB 1062.

Since the veto of SB 1062, whenever folks have asked us why they should sign the UNITY Pledge, our answer is simple: Do you believe that Arizona should be Open for Business to Everyone? We do, as do thousands of businesses, organizations and everyday Arizonans.

In 2023, we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the UNITY Pledge.  As part of our LGBTQ+ Pride celebration, we're taking the UNITY Pledge national. Our commitment to equality and fairness for all Americans continues to grow which is why a company, or organization in any state can now sign on the the UNITY Pledge to demonstrate your commitment to fully inclusive policy in your state and our nation.

Add your signature to the largest equality pledge in the nation — the UNITY Pledge!
